A team composed of DI, DII and JV players competed in the second annual National Lacrosse Showcase this past weekend. Hosted from July 11-13th in Baltimore, Maryland, the National High School Lacrosse Showcase consists of forty of the country’s premier high school lacrosse programs. Highland Park was only joined by Dallas Jesuit to represent the state of Texas at the event.

On Friday July 11, the Scots began the weekend with a pair of convincing victories over New York powers Bronxville (9-1) and Massapequa (6-1).

Continuing group play Saturday morning, the Scots defeated New Trier (IL) by a goal 5-4. Against Virginia’s Collegiate School, Highland Park needed overtime to secure the 5-4 win. Rising senior midfielder Carter McDade netted the game winner.

With an undefeated group play record of 4-0, Highland Park advanced into the eight team playoff bracket to face Ward Melville (NY). One of Long Island’s best teams, Ward Melville raced out to a 3-1 halftime lead. The Scots rallied back and forced overtime at 4-4. Unfortunately for the Scots, their comeback ended in a 5-4 defeat.

On Sunday, the Scots faced the familiar Calvert Hall from nearby Baltimore. In the regular season, Calvert Hall defeated Highland Park 8-3 at the King of Spring Classic in Durham, NC. The Scots came out on top this time with a narrow 4-3 victory.

Highland Park finished the weekend with a 5-1 overall record. Rising junior goalkeeper Colby Kneese received recognition for his impeccable performance by being named to the All-Rabil team. Kneese was the only player from Texas selected to the all tournament team.

Along with Kneese, captain Cole Ogden anchored the stellar and stingy Highland Park defense. The Scots allowed an average of 3 goals per game throughout the tournament.

Captain midfielder Hugo Reisenbichler served as the offensive linchpin, recording a point in each of the Scots six games.
