Congratulations to our High School teams and their victories in the THSLL State Championships yesterday in Georgetown!

DI Varsity beat St. Marks 5-4 to win their 6th State Championship.
DII beat Klein 8-7 to win their second DII State Championship.
This victory is the second same day state divisional win for both teams at state. In 2008 HP won both the DI and DII State Championships. The DI Varsity has won state in previous year in 2004, 2005, 2008, 2009 and 2010 and DII in 2008.
Highland Park’s DI and DII teams were not considered favorites to win the State Championship titles. Throughout the year in Division II it seemed likely that until the last week of the regular season when HPII defeated a number of top teams in the state, that the title would be claimed by Flower Mound or Hillcrest, with Klein, Keller, Cy-Fair, Highland Park DII and the others fighting for an outside chance to claim the title. In Division I, Highland Park was all but written off by mid-season, as they posted a meager 3-5 record in North District play and squeaked into the playoffs with some late-season wins during the district playoffs. Neither team was supposed to make it this far. Someone forgot to tell that to the brothers and head coaches of Highland Park’s DI and DII teams, Derek and Ross Thompson, respectively. Their teams played with poise, confidence, and skill and battled through to claim their respective titles.
May 5- Highland Park DII came into Championship weekend as the hottest team in the state. The Scots would use disciplined offense and 44 shots to take down St. Michael’s with a 12-6 win. Highland Park was led by Ben Larrabee who finished with 5 goals on the day, and also some strong play in goal from Dawson Burdette who would post 10 saves. St. Michael’s would trail at half time 6-2 but would come out in the second half and show signs of positive momentum. The Crusader’s were led by Tanner Coffey who finished with 3 goals and helped St. Michael’s close the lead in the fourth quarter. The Scots proved to be too much to handle as they would outscore St. Michael’s 6-4 in the second half on their way to a matchup with Klein in the State Final on Sunday at 1pm.
Highland Park DII's road to the THSLL North District Championship was through the number one and two teams in the state going into the Super Regional tournament at Hillcrest April 28 and 29.
DII defeated Hillcrest on Saturday 13-14.
On Sunday in the North District Championship game HP DII beat Flower Mound 8-7 to advance to the THSLL DII Championship in Georgetown May 5th and 6th.
Championship Game MVP: Corbin Wynn
Defensive MVP: Dawson Burdette
DII will play on Saturday May 5th in Georgetown against St. Michael's of Austin at 3:00pm.
The Scots from Highland Park had the hardest road to the final’s, having to take on Flower Mound and Hillcrest in the same weekend. Like their conterparts at the Division I level, they played two great games to knock off what some would say are the top two teams in the state in Division II. Two one goal games this weekend will have the Scots battle tested for this weekend’s Final Four.

In the spring of 2007, our coaches and board agreed to have our JV A team play at the Division II level. Traditionally our JV A team has been very competitive and suffered from a lack of competition at the JV level. The HP philosophy is that our DII team is a junior varsity team and a training ground for our DI future players. The DII team has won two state championships (2008 & 2012) and was the state champion runner up in 2007, its first season competing at the Division II level . Our DII team is open to underclassmen and juniors. We do not permit seniors to play at the DII level.
